Many people who are followers of Christ, decide for varying reasons that they will not be part of a church fellowship. Over the years, I have heard it time and time again, “I am a Christian, but I do not go to church”. They say that they do just fine with out church. But there is one thing that I see in each of these cases. They never continue to mature with God. Even though they maintain to have faith, they do not show signs of faith development, but rather faith stagnation. For many of them, their worldly walk takes precedence over their Godly walk.
I cant speak too loud. Before my walk with God became a deep personal one, I was easily led to stray away from fellowship. It didn’t take too much convincing because I was so self absorbed. I was a Christian more to serve myself, than to serve others. What a miserable existence that was, I must say.
Not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
People Don’t Attend Church For Varying Reasons
- A Church or People In It Has Hurt Your Feelings At Some Point
- Lacking Social Skills
- Doctrinal Disputes
- Too Confronting Personally
- Fear of Being Exposed For Who You Really Are
- Too Busy
- Don’t Want to be Accountable
- Not Getting Enough Attention
- Feeling Broken Within
- Feeling Unworthy
- Feeling Bitter Towards God
- Feeling Bitter Towards People
- Fear Of Developing Relationships
- More I am Sure
In A Nutshell
- Pain – Suffering
- Vanity – Self-Absorption
Having said that, I am also very much aware that in some circumstances people can be too ill to leave their beds to come to church. But there are many who even though they are ill, still have the capacity to attend church if they so wished.
From what I can see. The very people who are not attending a church are in fact the very ones who would benefit the most from being there. In fact, the urge to not go to church is not an compulsion that God would have given. Never would God encourage separation from the Body of Christ. Why. Because all throughout His Word, God promotes and encourages us to be an active part of the Body of Christ, not an amputated limb.
Our God Is A God of Restoration
Getting closer to God requires us to surrender the worldly feelings and emotions that are negative. This poses too much of a challenge for so many, but if you are willing, then God will be with you every step of the way.
Surrendering: (Handing Over)
- Pain – Suffering
- Vanity – Self-Absorption
Give Permission for The Surgery To Take Place
Let Go and Trust God
Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted. Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.
While a limb is attached to a body, it receives the required nutrients and circulation to continue to flourish and perform its designed task. But if a limb is separated from the body, it loses its nutrients and circulation instantly. The limb can no longer function as it was intended.
Deciding to Go Back To Church?
If you have made a decision to return back to Church, all I can say is, FABULOUS!! But you need to made aware that it may take time for your surgery of reattachment to take place. Don’s expect to walk in and just feel comfortable straight away. That is the mistake that many people make. First the surgery needs to occur.
Reattaching The Limb – Restoring Function
- Restoring Blood Flow In – Reconnecting Arteries – God’s Presence
- Restoring Blood Flow Out – Reconnecting Veins – Prayer, Praise & Worship
- Restoring Movement – Reconnecting Tendons – Adapting to Environment, Go In A Direction.
- Restoring Support – Reconnecting Bones – Giving and Receiving Strength
- Restoring Communication – Reconnecting Nerves – Giving and Receiving Information
This takes time. But be patient while you are being a patient. It wont be too long and you will be fully functional again. You will be comfortable relying on others and also others will feel comfortable relying on you. And all of us, of course relying on God, Jesus & The Holy Spirit.
Because we are members of his body.
Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into Him who is the Head, into Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.
God Has Not Given Up On You. He Hasn’t Left You. He Is Calling All Of His People Together for Fellowship. So That We May Become Stronger, Wiser and Closer To the Will of Our Father.
